Video demonstrating AudioCopy and Auto Chord feature

I just made a video that demonstrates the AudioCopy and Auto Chord feature. AudioCopy really opens a whole new world of opportunities! You can copy samples from any app that supports exporting samples using AudioCopy (there are well over 100 apps that supports it). This reminds me about the good old days when you would either sample from CDs or tapes to get new samples to your Amiga. That is, unless you had the opportunity to sample from expensive synthesisers. The other alternative was of course to steal samples from other modules, with the risk of being called a lamer. I didn’t have the money to buy an expensive synth from Korg or Roland but I bought a Yamaha QY-10, which was a good source for some decent samples. The Yamaha QY-10 is a MIDI-sequencer and synthesiser combined in a small box. I mostly enjoyed the auto chord feature in the sequencer. You could select a pattern and auto transpose it from e.g. a C-major to an A-minor. Later on, I got myself a Yamaha QY-70, which I still use today (actually together with VividTracker since I now have support for MIDI-in). When I started to develop VividTracker, I wondered if I could implement something similar to make it easier to transpose a pattern from C-major to any other chord. I noticed that effect 8 was the only effect in Protracker that is not in use and found a way to use it. I will write more details about how it works later. For now, take a look at the video, which hopefully gives you some...

MIDI in support

I didn’t plan this for the first release, but since I finally got my MIDI interface to work with my iPad I couldn’t resist. I implemented some code, connected my Yamaha QY70, and it works! It also works fine with virtual MIDI. There are still a few things to clean up, but I can now happily add MIDI in support to the feature list.

New feature: Percussion mode

I’m currently working on a feature that I think you will love: Percussion mode. Percussion mode assigns the note keys to different samples, so that you can play sample 1 by pressing C-1, sample 2 by pressing C#1, sample 3 by pressing D-2, and so on. You will be able to choose which note that should be played for each sample. Default note will be C-3. This makes it much easier to enter a drum pattern without having to switch between samples. Percussion mode is reached from the sample +/- buttons. If you press the “-” button when sample #1 is selected, you will enter percussion mode. By pressing the “+” button again, you will go back to sample...

YouTube video showing VividTracker+Audiobus+Cubasis

I made a video that demonstrates how to record a drum pattern from VividTracker to Cubasis using Audiobus. This video also demonstrates a new button, PPT1x, which is short for “Play Pattern one time” (it is called “PTT1x” in the video, which is a typo). This button plays the pattern only once, starting from top, and then stops. It is ideal for recording patterns to other apps through Audiobus, when you don’t want them repeated.

Copy & paste tracker data

I have just finished the copy & paste tracker data feature, and I’m satisfied with the result. This feature allows you to mark a part of a track (e.g. rows 0 to 3 of track 2, pattern 3) and copy the data. Then you can paste it into another track and pattern by pressing the paste button. The paste button will also automatically jump to the next position. For instance, if you copied eight rows then the paste button will paste from your current position and then jump eight rows. This makes it really quick to put out a drum pattern that you want to repeat many times. In the above example where we copied rows 0 to 3, we can now easily paste it from 4 to 7 by standing on row 4 and pressing the paste button. The data will be pasted and we will suddenly be standing at position 8, which means we can just continue to press the paste button a number of times more until we are at the end of the pattern. This specific function only allows you to copy one track at a time so you cannot use it to copy a full pattern with all four tracks. However, if you want to copy a full pattern there is another button for...
